How to Play Blackjack
Blackjack is an exciting and fun game that many people enjoy today. If you are interested in learning how to play blackjack, there are many strategy books available, but you should always begin with the rules of the game.
The object of the game of blackjack is to get as close to twenty one points without going over. The Queens, Kings and Jacks are all worth ten points, an Ace can be worth one point or eleven points, and the other cards are each valued according to their number.
When the player and the house or dealer tie, no one wins the game. If blackjack is dealt the player that gets it is the automatic winner unless the house ties.
Remember, the goal of the game is to beat the house without going over twenty one points. You will have to place your bet before the cards are dealt. Once the bets are placed, the cards are dealt face up two cards to each player. If you get to twenty one with the first two cards, it is an automatic win. If you have a blackjack, you will get one and one half times the bet you placed. If the dealer also has a blackjack, you will only get your bet back.
There are some variations to the way the bets are placed and this is typically where the player has control over the game. Some of the methods that can be used for betting are called Insurance, Double Down, Surrender, Split and Even Money.
There are also variations in the type of blackjack you are playing. For instance, there is a Las Vegas Blackjack that is played with two decks and the house must hit on hands that are less than seventeen and they will have to stand on hands that are seventeen or greater. With Atlantic City blackjack the game is played with four decks and the house must hit on sixteen and stand on seventeen. You should know which style you are playing before placing bets.
